Microsoft reminds customers that extended support for Windows Server 2012 R2 and all versions of Windows Server 2012 R2 will cease on October 10th.
Windows Server 2012 until October 2018. This is to enable customers to upgrade to older, less-supported Windows Server Server versions.
Redmond will cease providing extended support once the deadline has passed. Redmond will no longer provide technical support or bug fixes to address any issues discovered that could affect the stability and usability of the servers using the OS versions.
Microsoft stated Tuesday that these products would no longer be eligible for security updates, nonsecurity updates or bug fixes.
This reminder is coming after that have been issued since July 2021. They warn you that the Windows version will be retiring later in the year.
Customer advised to migrate or upgrade to Azure
Microsoft offers advice to administrators who wish to maintain their Windows Server 2012 servers on premises and receive bug fixes, security updates and other improvements to Windows Server 2022. They can also upgrade to Windows Server 2022 (or purchase Extended Security Updates)
They will receive up to 3 years worth of security updates through ESUs, which can be renewed each year until October 13, 20,26.
Another option is to move their applications and databases to Azure Virtual Machines. This will provide them with ESUs free of charge for the three-year period after support ends.
Microsoft stated that Azure Arc can be used by customers to get scheduled/automated ESU updates, installation, as well as security and governance capabilities within Azure.
