Microsoft Edge Update will Disable Internet Explorer February 2012.

Microsoft today announced that the Microsoft Edge future update will permanently disable Internet Explorer 11 desktop browser for some Windows 10 computers in February.

This follows a when Internet Explorer was officially discontinued. The company informed customers that legacy browsers would be disabled by a Windows Update.

Redmond stated that the out-of-support Internet Explorer 11 desktop application (IE11), will be disabled permanently on devices in February 2023 through a Microsoft Edge Update, and not a Windows update.

All devices remaining that are not redirected to Microsoft Edge from IE11 will be redirected using the Microsoft Edge Update scheduled for February 14, 2023.

To avoid disruption to business when users are unable to access IE11-dependent apps, enterprise admins should switch to Microsoft Edge with IE Mode and disable IE policies .

They will be removed in situations where administrators are unable to act prior to IE11 being permanently disabled.

BleepingComputer Internet Explorer would direct users to Microsoft Edge, a Chromium-based Microsoft Edge, when they launch the Internet Explorer 11 desktop apps.

IE11 launched Microsoft Edge automatically when it visited incompatible websites starting in October 2020. Microsoft manages the list of compatible sites , which contains 7,562 domains that belong to many high-profile platforms and services such as Facebook, Instagram and Google Drive.

Internet Explorer is still available for a while

Although IE11 has been officially removed from several Windows 10 version on the semi-annual channel servicing channel (SAC), and is not shipped with Windows 11, IE11 will continue to be available for Windows 7 ESU and Windows 8.1 versions.

For the lifetime of Windows version, the web browser will receive technical support and security upgrades on Windows systems that run these Windows versions.

To enable IE mode in Microsoft Edge, you have to go to edge://settings/defaultbrowser, toggle on the ‘Allow sites to be reloaded in Internet Explorer‘ option, and restart the browser.
